Dr Peter Young MD, FRCA, MB ChB Peter is a consultant in Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn. He trained at Edinburgh Medical School and subsequently worked in Edinburgh, Leeds, Norwich, Cambridge and Christchurch, New Zealand. He completed his MD dissertation in 2000 on Pulmonary Aspiration in Mechanical Ventilation. Peter's research interests include preventing ventilator associated pneumonia and the development of 10 other medical safety innovations to prevent serious adverse and never events. He is the inventor of the PneuX endotracheal and tracheostomy tube and cuff pressure controller, a system which prevents pneumonia by eliminating pulmonary aspiration in critically ill patients and is being used in Critical Care units in the USA, Europe and UK and two of his safety innovations have won prizes at the National Patient Safety Awards and the Innovation in Anaesthesia Awards from the Association of Anaesthetists. Peter is an alumni of the NHS Innovation Accelerator Programme and a mentor on the Clinical Entrepreneur Programme. Peter has been elected as a Council Member of the Association of Anaesthetists.
