Dr Shipway is Clinical Lead for Geriatric Medicine at North Bristol NHS Trust. He trained at Oxford, and after specialty training in London, undertook a perioperative medicine fellowship at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals. Following this he was appointed as Consultant Physician at St Mary's Hopsital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. In 2017 he moved out of London to the southwest with his young family. Since arriving in Bristol he has established perioperative medical services for older patients sustaining major trauma, and those undergoing vascular, colorectal, urological and breast surgery. These service developments have successfully embedded physicians into surgical teams, pathways and processes. His publications from this work have reported signifcantly redcued medical complications, length of stay and mortality.
