2019 Abstract Categories

POSTER ZONE DEADLINE: 6TH SEPTEMBER

The development of Perioperative Medicine is a focus of the Anaesthesia & Critical Care Conference 2019, and this is reflected in the categories.

  1. Service Innovation – preoperative care and optimisation
  2. Service Innovation – enhanced recovery and postoperative care
  3. Patient Safety and Quality Improvement
  4. Case Reports


Categories 1-4 are open to all Anaesthetists, while categories 3-4 are open to all Intensivists.

On submission, please indicate clearly which Category you are entering your abstract for.

All of the following types of research are acceptable for submission:

Audit - comparison of practice against a local or national standard. Ideally the audit cycle should be completed or the intention to do so demonstrated.

Quality improvement - systematic processes of continuous analysis and improvement of the quality of healthcare, irrespective of the starting point.

Survey - ascertainment of views/practices of staff or patients that are not routinely collected.

Original research - observational or interventional studies involving collection of new data.

Case report – describes an unusual and instructive case, or small group of cases demonstrating novel anaesthetic or critical care techniques or equipment, new information on diseases of importance to anaesthesia or critical care, or unusual toxicity or equipment failure.
