Ruth Miller

Diabetes Specialist Nurse, Royal Free Hospital
Ruth trained as a nurse at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington and has worked abroad and in the UK in a variety of community and acute settings. While working as a Diabetes Specialist Nurse at The Royal Free Hospital she was appointed Clinical Lead for Diabetes. Ruth believes that in the acute hospital setting we all share responsibility to know about diabetes and that staff education is fundamental to patient safety and good care. She also understood that to be effective, training must be concise and highly relevant. She went on to develop The Diabetes 10 Point Training for Inpatient staff. While working as Diabetes Clinical Lead at a multi centred London acute Trust in 2013 Ruth created the Diabetes 10 Point Training Programme (D10PT) for inpatient staff. There are now 5 free online programmes for health and social care staff. Ruth is passionate that we all have a shared responsibility to know about diabetes and that education is central to patient safety and good care.
