Emergency airway access: Ultrasound helps

Accessing the front of the neck in an emergency
can be daunting, especially if it looks difficult from the outside.
We will show you how ultrasound can reduce worries
and guide the way to safety. Access can be done real-time
or by marking. We can show you available evidence
and you can practice something that you can
incorporate into your skillset, but hopefully never have to use!

Adrian Wong (Consultant, Royal Surrey County)
Ashley Miller (Consultant, Shrewsbury & Telford)
Justin Kirk-Bayley (Consultant, Royal Surrey County)

10.30 - 11.15

ECHO: Basic skills with cardiac scanning

Focussed echocardiography has moved heart ultrasonography
from difficult to access comprehensive studies into a format
that allows simple questions to be answered when you just
have to know the answer to,"is it the heart
causing the hypotension". Focussed scanning isn't difficult,
and we will show you some first steps that could lead on
to a path towards formal accreditation, with the background behind it.
