Surgical management of IBD complications - anything new?

Streams: European Acute Care Conference
Despite breakthrough changes in the medical management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), many patients will undergo at least one surgical procedure during their lifetimes. Furthermore, some presentations of this condition will present as complications in the Acute Take, and many of them will require close liaison with the Surgical Team or straightforward surgical management. This presentation summarizes systematically the main groups of surgical complications of IBD and its treatment, with real-life examples and some insight in novel or promising approaches.
Learning outcomes:
  1. Systematic discussion of the five main IBD complications that may require urgent surgical treatment.
  2. Clear indications from an A&E standpoint about best diagnostic tests and when to timely reach the Surgical team.
  3. Examples of real-life cases of endoscopic and surgical management of these complications.
  4. Update of time-tested treatments and presentation of novel approaches - new techniques or revisiting of classic ones.
Speakers
Dr David Lacasa, Consultant, General and Digestive Surgery - Hospital El Bierzo Ponferrada Leon, Spain
