Pneumothorax - management for the Acute Physician
This session will discuss the aetiology, epidemiology, presentation, investigation and management pneumothoraces with an emphasis on primary and secondary pneumothorax.
- Be aware of the underlying diagnosis before deciding how to treat the pneumothorax.
- Conservative management may suitable in a number of patients and will reduce admissions and cost.
- Respiratory physicians input is essential for all secondary and special situation/ condition pneumothoraces.
- Diving is contraindicated unless definitive surgical intervention is in place (which reduces the risk of recurrence dramatically).
