Healthy nutritional profiles and Mediterranean Diet by Dr Raffaele Palladino, Honorary Consultant in Public Health Medicine, Imperial College
Diabetes is rising worldwide, with projections suggesting that the number of adults with the condition will increase up to 642 million in 2040. Latest evidence suggests that intensive lifestyle intervention is one of the most effective strategies to prevent and improve the management of diabetes. Mediterranean Diet is considered a healthy diet that can improve prevention and management of pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes and suitable to be adopted as part of lifestyle interventions. The presentation aims to discuss the latest evidence on the role of the Mediterranean Diet on prevention and management of Type 2 diabetes.

Learning outcomes:
  1. Latest evidence on the role of Mediterranean diet in prevention and management of Type 2 diabetes
  2. How Mediterranean diet can be included in lifestyle intervention programmes for the management of Type 2 diabetes
  3. What are the preventive strategies for individuals at increased risk of Type 2 diabetes currently in place in the UK and worldwide.
